MOTLEY, Minn. — Morey’s Seafood International, LLC is excited to announce it has been issued the FAO-Based Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) Chain of Custody certification by Global Trust, the certifying body for the Alaska fishery. The new certification verifies all salmon species purchased by Morey’s are from an Alaskan ecosystem that has been responsibly developed.
RFM Chain of Custody certification is only available to those who have successfully passed the third party audit verifying adherence to the Chain of Custody Standard. Morey’s joins a list of fewer than 100 companies in the world credible for the RFM certification.
To date, the British Retail Consortium, Marine Stewardship Council, and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council have also certified Morey’s. Additionally, the company is a governing member of the Global Aquaculture Alliance and maintains a close a partnership with the National Fisheries Institute, The Shrimp Council, and the Seafood Nutrition Partnership.
“The FAO-Based Responsibility Fisheries Management Certification serves as a model within the seafood industry. Morey’s is proud to add RFM to our stable of certifications for both of our Minnesota based facilities. This makes Morey's Golden Valley Distribution center the only full line seafood distributor in Minnesota with RFM Chain of Customer certification,” said Jim Walstrom, President of Morey’s Seafood International.
