A public statement released Friday by Louisiana Bucket Brigade demands that state officials with Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries claiming in its new report that "the average consumer could eat 63 pounds of shrimp each day for five years before reaching 'levels of concern' for oil contamination" lacks basic information about official sampling methods that many non-profit organizations have demanded since early days after the BP Oil Spill.
"If state officials want to dispel fears about seafood safety, they need to back up their statements with evidence," said Anne Rolfes, Founding Director of LABB.
Otherwise, the "safe Gulf seafood" remains a myth to many.
Louisiana Bucket Brigade state that no data on these samples is easily accessible by the general public, as parents have also been saying, and want the following questions answered:
