EAST ADVOCATE – The Maritime Provinces have the best lobster, but when it comes to getting that message out to the rest of the world, there is room for improvement.
That was the message from representatives from the provincial department of fisheries and aquaculture, who presented the idea of new generic marketing options for lobster, including a one-cent-per-pound levy paid by buyers are harvesters, at a recent meeting with local fishers at the Advocate Fire Hall.
“We’re gathering as much information and opinions on it as we can,” said Ralph Heighton, coastal resource coordinator. “What we’re trying to do is decided whether industry is supportive of it.”
