HAMPTON — A different kind of seafood is in crabtown.
L.D. Amory and Co. Inc. and Graham & Rollins Inc. of Hampton have partnered with the Atlantic Red Crab Co. to bring deep-sea red crab to the region.
Unlike the shallow-water blue crab common to Hampton Roads, the cold-water red crab is harvested from a depth of 2,000 feet. It's larger than the blue crab and known for its sweet flavor.
"The key to this is, once you taste it, oh wow," said Meade Amory, vice president of family-owned L.D. Amory. "(It's) just getting people to try something new, that's the hard part," he said.
