International Shellfish Meeting Opens In South Carolina

CHARLESTON, SC – Scientists, regulators and fishermen from the United States and Europe will be talking shrimp, lobster and other crustaceans this week in Charleston. The three-day International Conference on Shellfish Restoration opens Wednesday and continues through Saturday.

The executive director of the South Carolina Sea Grant Consortium, Rick DeVoe, says the conference has been held every two years since the first meeting on Hilton Head Island in 1996.

DeVoe says shellfish have been and continue to be an important part of South Carolina's coastal economy and lifestyle.
