EUREKA, Calif. – Coast Seafoods held a public meeting in Eureka Wednesday night to discuss its plans for shellfish farming in the Arcata Bay.

The expansion would see the farming area increase from 300 acres to 922 acres in the bay.

Many different members of the community voiced their concerns over smaller shellfish farmers being muscled out of the bay.

Others were concerned that expansion would negatively affect bird populations as many duck hunters were opposed to shellfish expansion.
