Alford Seafood Closes After Four Generations In Business

Jack Alford Jr. spent Tuesday afternoon doing some final bookkeeping and greeting former customers of Alford Seafood who hadn't heard about the market's closing last week.
The business, which spanned four generations, shut its doors on Sept. 7. The Alford family sold off the market's equipment and supplies during a public sale on Saturday, and the building and property at 5330 Carolina Beach Road will soon be on the real estate market.
"I don't really know how to tell you," owner Jack Alford Jr. said when asked about why the business closed. "It just happened."
He named bad business decisions, a poor economy and health problems as possible factors contributing the market's demise.
