Walmart is moving forward with plans to build a huge distribution center in Brevard County — a deal that will bring big construction and job opportunities to the region.
The retail giant on Sept. 6 applied for a permit to begin a 146-acre project in Cocoa. Plans showed one main facility will have storage for freezer items, dairy, deli, cold produce, meat and dry produce. There also will be a dock for receiving and shipping, and smaller surrounding facilities for fuel, a guard house, a truck maintenance garage and more. The project in total encompasses 592,830 square feet and 943 parking space, documents showed.
If granted the permit, Walmart could begin site work and move forward with contractor, subcontractor, vendor opportunities and more.
