Two redeveloped shopping centers could soon yield two new supermarkets in the Charleston area.
Plans for an upgraded property on James Island show Publix occupying the site, while Save-A-Lot is adding its fourth grocery store in the region next month in a North Charleston space where Piggly Wiggly once operated.
In plans submitted to the city of Charleston for redevelopment of a strip center at 1411 Folly Road, a rendering of the roadside sign for the new Shops at Folly Road Shopping Center shows Publix’s name in small print. A spokeswoman for the chain said, “At this time, I cannot confirm.”
