Sysco Philadelphia Opens Its Doors To The Beef Community

Bedford – Each July, the Pennsylvania Beef Council (PBC) and its Board of Directors, takes their summer meeting on wheels to explore and further deepen their knowledge of the beef and veal industry. This year, Board of Directors and staff gathered at Sysco Philadelphia on July 19. The visit allowed for the opportunity to learn more about the food distribution industry and their role in the foodservice and retail arenas. Nearly 30 board members and beef council staff attended the event.

Sysco Philadelphia is a large food distributor located in Philadelphia. Their team is made up of approximately 500 people and distribute product within at 65 mile highly populated radius. Today, Sysco has sales and service relationships with approximately 425,000 customers and remains committed to helping them succeed in the foodservice industry and satisfy consumers' appetites. Operating from 194 locations throughout the world.

Bill Pinto, Center of the Plate Specialist at Sysco Philadelphia, spearheaded the efforts and made the group feel welcome. The day provided an up-close look at how the large distributor operates and meets its customers’ expectations with convenience, competitive pricing and high-quality products. The day included a delicious lunch crafted by their very own in-house chefs, a warehouse tour, and concluded with meeting the faces of the Sysco team. “Sysco Philly is grateful to have had the opportunity to host the PA Beef Council.  We continue to discover and leverage our combined resources and relationships to help our customers and people reach their highest potential,” noted Pinto.

“It’s so important for beef and veal producers to take the time to engage the folks who take their product to market. The product distribution process is not just about moving boxes, but rather providing business and marketing resources and solutions to ensure success, especially for the smaller operators,” noted PBC Executive Director, Bridget Bingham.

The PA Beef Council board and staff is grateful to the Sysco Philadelphia leadership team for their generosity and hospitality. Understanding each segment of the beef community helps us advocate the farm to plate message to the hundreds of consumers and influencers we rub shoulders with at events, meetings and via social media. TOGETHER, we provide families with safe, nutritious and delicious beef and veal!
