Stewart's Shops Corp. will spend up to $50 million this year to construct 17 stores across upstate New York and Vermont.
The family- and employee-owned convenience store chain will start work on six stores in the next four weeks. A total of 15 existing stores will be rebuilt or renovated. Stewart's will also construct stores in two new locations in upstate New York — Rome in Oneida County and Mount Hope in Orange County.
"As soon as the weather breaks, so will the ground," said facilities director Chad Kiesow. "If we had more time in the year to get these projects approved by the towns, we would do more."
