Stater Bros. Markets shoppers and employees have raised more than half a million dollars that will be used to clean and preserve state beaches in Southern California.
The Care for the Coast Campaign, as the fundraiser is called, has raised $1.2 million for environmental stewardship over two years.
This year's funds, which totaled $566,425, are a combination of donations from shoppers and personnel of the San Bernardino-based grocery chain, and a percentage of sales from participating Coca-Cola sales from the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Southern California.
This year's funds will be used to fund solar trash collectors and recycling containers at the Carlsbad and Malibu Lagoon state beaches and dune restoration at Huntington State Beach, among other projects.
