While Triad shoppers, real estate developers and retail leasing agents are waiting for confirmation of more Publix, Lidl and maybe even Trader Joe’s locations for the region, get ready for yet another grocery player to enter the conversation. If it hasn’t already.
Sprouts Farmers Market, a Phoenix-based chain, listed North Carolina in a regulatory filing Tuesday as a "mid-term expansion market," along with Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. It’s the first direct confirmation by the grocer (NASDAQ: SFM) that the Tar Heel State is in its sights, although site plans have indicated that Sprouts will anchor new shopping centers in both Charlotte and Raleigh.
What’s more, Triad real estate execs have previously told the Triad Business Journal that Sprouts has scouted this region for potential sites.
