Sendik's Food Markets has launched online grocery ordering at seven of its stores.

The $5.95 service, dubbed Sendik's Express, lets customers choose grocery items, pay with a credit or debit card and have their orders assembled by Sendik's staff. Shoppers can call or text the store when they arrive and have the groceries loaded in their car at a designated parking spot.

Orders must be placed four hours in advance.

Store pickup of items purchased online is a growing retail trend. Chains such as Target, Best Buy, Crate & Barrel and, more recently, Kohl's, have embraced the idea. Sendik's says it is the first Milwaukee area grocer to offer the service.
