Three Grocery Company Presidents Share Thoughts on Creating Highly Productive Management Teams at the inaugural WAFC Education Symposium during the 89th Annual WAFC Convention on Monday, April 19th from 1-2:30 p.m. at the JW Marriott Desert Springs in Palm Desert, CA.
The food industry offers some of the most challenging but rewarding career paths available today. As consumer needs continue to shift in a complex economic environment, retail and supplier management professionals need to be better prepared to thrive in these positions.
Each will share best practices of how their organizations utilize the Community College Retail Management Certificate Program and the USC Food Industry Management and Food Industry Executive Programs to develop their associates.

Sue Klug Graduate Class of 1984 while a Computer Programmer with a major Southern California chain has achieved success in both the retail and supplier sides of the industry. Now President of Albertsons Southern California Division. Her responsibilities include 275 supermarkets, 170 pharmacies and more than 28,000 associates in Southern California and Nevada.
Jim Lee Graduate Class of 1976 when he worked for a major Southern California grocery chain as a Service Manager, aka: Third Key. As President & COO of Stater Bros. Markets, the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California, he oversees 164 stores with 18,000 members of the Stater Bros.

Karl Schroeder Graduate Class of 1988 while a Safeway Store Manager in Phoenix. is currently President of Safeways Northern California Division encompassing 15 Districts with 271 stores in California, Nevada and Hawaii. His 34 year career with Safeway has included leadership assignments on both the east and west coast.
Facilitating the session will be WAFC Education Director, Cherie Phipps and the Director of Food Industry Management Programs at the University of Southern California, Bob Hermanns. Phipps and Hermanns are also FIMP alumni, graduating in 1987 and 1967 respectively.
