Florida’s largest grocer is in full support of the Food Safety Modernization Act, set to be signed into law by President Obama.
“We are extremely excited and commend President Obama and Congress for modernizing our food safety system and improving the food safety authority and ultimately for reducing food borne illnesses,” said Shannon Patten, media and community relations manager for Publix Super Markets Inc., based in Lakeland.
It is the first major overhaul of the food safety system in the United States in nearly a century.
The major impacts are more to suppliers of Publix and not necessarily to the grocer directly, Patten told the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
