Orlando, Fla. – The National Mango Board (NMB) has been honored with the Produce Business Marketing Excellence Award for the fifth year in a row in the 2013 competition. The award recognizes innovative produce companies who are revolutionizing the way the produce industry connects its products to the trade and consumers.
NMB’s foodservice promotion with Red Mango, a major frozen yogurt chain, was recognized for its creative way to entice consumers to try fresh mangos and learn more about mango nutrition. This promotion was integrated into the NMB’s Foodservice PR & Marketing Program which works with foodservice operators and funds promotions with chains to place more fresh mango on menus.
For the month of May 2012, the NMB partnered with Red Mango to feature mango as their topping and yogurt flavor of the month with the focus of educating consumers about mango nutrition. During this promotion, Red Mango used NMB branded point of sale materials to educate their customers about mangos and focused messaging around mango nutrition. They also offered $1 off coupons with the mango yogurt and topping combination. Red Mango spread mango nutrition messages to their customers through several of their social media channels, including e-blasts, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
“This promotion is the first time the NMB has been a part of a foodservice promotion really focused on mango nutrition messaging and it was a great success,” said Megan McKenna, NMB Director of Marketing. “We strive to increase awareness of this versatile tropical fruit as well as its nutritional benefits, and this foodservice promotion was able to share those important key messages to their customers while delivering a delicious treat.”
