Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Shopping using a smartphone could soon become as popular as online shopping. The versatile gadgets can offer customers information about the products they're considering, and can also provide coupons tailored to the phone's location.
According to a study by the group ForSee, 11 percent of the 10,000 people visiting e-retail sites this holiday season made purchases using their smartphones. Only two percent of customers used the same behavior last year.
Additionally, thirty percent of customers used their smartphones to research the products they were considering.
As the trend and the technology grow, stores are looking to find ways to benefit from the advisor shoppers carry in their pocket. Green Hills grocery store, for example, wants customers to check out their products by "checking-in" to their South Salina Street store through a location-based service like Foursquare or Facebook's Places.
