Military Discounts Offer Rewards For Restaurants

For restaurants near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, bringing in members of the military is a huge part of their business.

With roughly 26,000 people at the Dayton-area military installation, the base is equivalent in size to the city of Centerville. But targeting military personnel isn’t as easy as flipping over an “open for business” sign. Many restaurateurs use military discounts as a means to lure in this lucrative crowd.

For Abuelo’s, located at 2420 N. Fairfield Road in Beavercreek, active, retired and civilian military personnel represent roughly 40 percent of the Mexican restaurant’s overall business.

Mark Myers, regional partner with Abuelo’s, said with the largest single-site employer nearby, it just makes sense to gear business toward the base.
