Martin’s Super Markets announces the grand opening of the company’s newest format store, Portage Meat & Market. The store is located at 1302 Elwood Avenue in South Bend.
The store is scheduled to open at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5. A ribbon cutting ceremony beginning at 9:45 am will feature dignitaries including South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Martin’s President & CEO Rob Bartels, as well as representatives from the South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s very important for the Northwest Side to enjoy quality grocery options, and we are pleased to see this investment from Martin’s at the site of the store where it all began for them,” said Mayor Pete Buttigieg. “This new concept will keep important jobs in South Bend, and we are eager to see how the expanded fresh offerings add to the neighborhood.”
Highlights of the new full assortment grocery store will include expanded fresh meat offerings and meal solutions. Fresh meat and produce selections will strive to offer customers a better value. A complete line of pantry goods, dairy and frozen foods will be featured. The South Bend store will also have available a variety of health and beauty items, specialty foods and general merchandise.
New hot Deli foods will be available daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and include fried chicken, ribs and other specialty ready-to-eat entrees and sides.
The store’s Grand Opening celebration will include these events and activities:
-Hoosier Lottery Wheel Spin on Friday, October 6 from 3:30pm to 5:30 pm
– Grocery Giveaway with WSMK Smokin’ 99.1 Radio on Tuesday, October 10 from 10:00 am to noon
– Child Car Seat Checkup on Saturday, October 14 from 9:00 am to noon
– Butcher’s Block Party on Thursday, October 19 from 4:00 am to 7:00 pm
The previous store’s Do it Best hardware program will continue with the opening of Portage Meat & Market.
The previous space was the location of the then-oldest store in the Martin’s Super Markets grocery regional chain. It will close on Friday, September 29 at 9:00 p.m.
Store Manager is Doug Kizer. Store hours will be 8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily.
Martin’s Super Markets was founded in 1947 and currently has 22 stores in South Bend, Mishawaka, Granger, Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, Nappanee, Logansport and Warsaw, Indiana, and Niles, Stevensville and St. Joseph, Michigan. The company also operates 17 in-store pharmacies, a pharmacy at Saint Joseph Health System in Mishawaka, a Martin’s Express convenience store in South Bend and a Side Door Café at Elkhart General Hospital.
