Kroger Co. is likely to sell as many as 50 Roundy’s Inc. stores in Wisconsin, according to one analyst from the Milwaukee area who closely tracks the supermarket industry.

David Livingston, who runs Waukesha, Wis.-based supermarket research firm DJL Research, told me Roundy’s weak sales per square foot at many Wisconsin stores make it clear that Cincinnati-based Kroger will close up to 25 stores in the Milwaukee area and another 25 or so around the state.

That would seem to go against Kroger CFO Mike Schlotman’s statement during a conference call with analysts and investors about Kroger’s Nov. 11 announcement that it will buy Milwaukee-based Roundy’s for $800 million.
