Jewel Goes Mobile With Circular, Recipe Planning App

The new owner of Jewel-Osco has partnered with a Vermont technology company that provides online tools such as digital circulars and recipe-planning mobile applications.
Last month, Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Supervalu Inc. sold Itasca-based Jewel-Osco and four other chains to an investor group led by Cerberus Capital Management. The deal was valued at $3.3 billion. Jewel-Osco has 176 stores, with 75 of them within a 20-mile radius of Chicago. The investor group will be using technology from Vermont-based MyWebGrocer at nearly 900 newly acquired grocery stores, including Albertsons.
MyWebGrocer said Jewel-Osco shoppers will be able to access interactive circulars and add items to a shopping list that syncs between computers and mobile devices. Customers can also browse a recipe database app and add a recipe's ingredients to the shopping list.
In-store signage and social media pages will let customers know how to access the apps, the company said.
