SCHENECTADY, NY – Golub Corporation executives joined today with officials from the Italian Trade Commission to announce a new multi-year partnership agreement to increase the breadth and variety of authentic Italian products across the progressive Northeastern chain’s six-state footprint. The partnership – one of only three in the country, and the only of its kind on the East coast – is focused on bringing authentic Italian products to Price Chopper Supermarkets and Market 32, and includes cooperative advertising, extensive sampling, and a promotional sweepstakes that will send a lucky shopper to Rome, Italy.
“We are delighted to embark on this important partnership and collaboration with the Golub Corporation, engaging and educating consumers about Product of Italy,” said Maurizio Forte, Italian Trade Commissioner and Executive Director for the US. “Italian imports to the US are up 23% at the close of the third quarter. Italy remains number one importer in many categories including cheese, olive oil, pasta, and wine. Authentic Products of Italy are a celebrated part of Italy’s cultural identity. For centuries, we have combined the best ingredients transforming them into extraordinary products which we are so pleased to share. Americans are among the most discerning consumers in the world. Their interest and appreciation of authentic specialty products is a testament to Made in Italy and Price Chopper’s commitment to growing its specialty categories,” he added.
The partnership’s first promotion, dubbed “Extraordinary Italian Taste,” began on October 11 and is running until/through October 24. It spotlights new varieties of authentic Italian cheese, cured meats, crackers, pastry, beverages, pastas, sauces, pesto, tomatoes, vegetables, fish, oils, vinegars wood-fired pizza, and gelato, which enhance Price Chopper’s and Market 32’s edible portfolio of nearly 850 Italian imported products. The breadth and variety of this portfolio is expected to increase over time, as the international partnership grows and develops.
“Italian heritage runs deep throughout our marketing footprint, and its powerful culinary influence continues to inspire the way many of us eat,” said Jerry Golub, CEO of the Golub Corporation, parent company of Price Chopper and Market 32. “We recognize that customers are looking for authentic products with which to make traditional ‘old-world’ and new classic Italian dishes for their families and we’re confident that this partnership will help us to provide the best assortment of genuine Italian products available.”
In recognition of the partnership, many authentic Italian products will be sampled in Price Chopper
Supermarkets and Market 32 stores throughout the promotion.
