Hot Dogs and Burgers are big favorites on school menus, as indicated in the FlavorTrak database of 175 leading school districts. Hot Dogs, with 637 items on K-12 menus, however, are not as popular as Burgers with 999 items. Hot Dogs account for a 41% share of items versus 61% for Burgers.
Menu listing frequency is a very important factor. Hot Dogs are listed on school menus an average of 1.9 times per month and Burgers 3.8 times. Collectively, Burgers and Dogs account for 4,971 menu listings per month in FlavorTrak. Burgers thus comprise a 76% share of total menu listings versus 24% for Hot Dogs.
