Harris Teeter is looking to add about 3,000 employees to its ranks.

The Matthews-based grocer, a subsidiary of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), said Monday that it plans to hire for nearly 3,000 new positions companywide, ranging from part-time cashiers and department clerks to full-time department heads and assistant store managers. About 600 of those new jobs are slated for stores in the Charlotte region, company spokeswoman Danna Robinson said in an email.

In June, Harris Teeter also announced a ramp-up in hiring at two new Charlotte area stores, set to open this fall. Those plans call for a 53,000-square-foot store at both the Kendrick Crossing shopping center in Gastonia and in the Berewick development in southwest Charlotte. A hiring event for the Berwick location will take place Aug. 18.
