REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – Guckenheimer, the national foodservice management company that pioneered restaurant style, healthful dining in the workplace, has added National Public Radio (NPR) to its roster of clients. The Sound Bites Café at NPR’s new Washington, D.C. headquarters debuted last week to complement the company’s new onsite employee Wellness Center, dedicated to creating a healthy work environment for the staff of approximately 800.
Classically trained chefs oversee the Sound Bites Café operations and menu which features Guckenheimer’s Red, Yellow, Green program – signage highlighting the nutritional value of each option with Green representing the healthiest choice. The daily customized menu features fresh prepared meals-from-scratch and eclectic, internationally inspired recipes sourced from premium, sustainable ingredients, locally sourced, when available.
Available to eligible full-time and part time NPR staff, The NPR Wellness Center is the product of a long relationship between NPR and Cigna, NPR’s primary medical plan carrier since 1992. The Wellness Center provides preventative care series, chronic condition coaching, as well as health management classes, in addition to an onsite workout facility managed by Corporate Fitness Works, and a bike room for the many NPR employees who ride bikes to work. The Wellness Center opened on April 24, 2013 with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Sam Kass, Executive Director of Let's Move! and Senior Policy Advisor on Nutrition for the White House, NPR President and CEO Gary E. Knell and Julia Huggins, president for Cigna in the MidAtlantic, for the opening ceremony of the NPR Wellness Center.
