Elmhurst is getting a new grocery store — and new sushi and gelato bars, a bakery, wine and cheese shops, even a pizzeria with a stone hearth oven.
Those specialty shops and more are all inside the new Mariano's, which opened this week at 678 N. York St., at the northwest corner of York and Industrial Drive.
The 76,000-square-foot store joins Elmhurst competitors Dominick's and Jewel in offering a mix of fresh and organic items along with specialty and ready-to-eat foods.
It also competes with some nearby more upscale stores, including Pete's Fresh Market in Oakbrook Terrace, Standard Market in Westmont and Whole Foods in Hinsdale.
