The owners of a regional supermarket chain have established a separate affiliation with a discount grocer.
Joe Fasula, a co-owner of Gerrity's Supermarket, said his family recently entered a licensing agreement with Save-A-Lot, a limited-assortment, 1,200-market chain based in St. Louis.
A 13,000-square-foot Save-A-Lot that employs 20 people opened March 28 on Main Street in Blakely, and another store will open within six months on Main Street in Wilkes-Barre, Mr. Fasula said.
Save-A-Lot, which competes with discounters including Wal-Mart, Aldi and PriceRite, also could contend with Gerrity's for shoppers.
