Houston-based Lewis Food Town Inc., the parent company of Food Town Grocery Stores, has acquired grocery retail business Gerland's from the Levit family for an undisclosed amount, said Mike Lewis, president of Lewis Food Town.
The Levit family sold the warehouse and distribution operations of Houston-based The Grocer Supply Co., the parent company of Gerland's, to New Hampshire-based C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc. in November.
Washington D.C.-based Acon Investments LLC announced its purchase of Fiesta Mart from the Levit Family on April 29, and the private equity firm almost snatched up Gerland's as well had Lewis not pushed through with Food Town's plans to integrate the Gerland's chain in Houston, said Lewis.
