Farm Fresh Forks Vegetable Tasting Experience To Expand
November 9, 2016 | 2 min to read
The Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association has received a Specialty Crop Block Grant from the Arizona Department of Agriculture for their Farm Fresh Forks program. This project began last year, but will now have an opportunity to grow much bigger. Farm Fresh Forks is a vegetable tasting program modeled after the wine tasting experience. Four local restaurants will be participating. The Patio, The Market, River City Grill and Garden Café will all be offering the vegetable tasting opportunity beginning in January, 2017.
This 12 week program will highlight a different grower/shipper each week and three locally grown products. Chefs will create tasting plates so their guests will have an opportunity to try local produce in a variety of recipes. Thanks to the grant, YFVA has an opportunity to promote Farm Fresh Forks on a national level. In addition to promoting Yuma's agriculture, the program will also attract visitors to Yuma. Included in this promotion will be a Yuma agriculture pocket guide, tasting menus, new billboard on I-8, a 30 second commercial, and more. Creators will also be attending the Arizona Media Marketplace in Phoenix in November to promote the program to national and international travel writers. Also new this year, organizers will partner with the restaurants to host a launch event for the public at each location..
"Wine has had the edge on tastings for centuries. Vegetables have many different tastes, colors, and textures. Thanks to the talent of four local chefs, their different recipes will also create a unique experience at each setting," shared Steve Alameda, Yuma Fresh Vegetable Association's President. "We believe it's a win-win to pair our local products with chefs and then to promote this relationship through a tasting experience that everyone can enjoy. Not only will guests taste our produce, they will have an opportunity to learn about Yuma agriculture."
