Newark, NJ – Diamond Commissary, formerly Pyramid Food Service, announced today their approval from the USDA for their wholesale food manufacturing of prepared 5 lb food trays.
With USDA standards being stringent, and the cost to properly maintain a USDA facility high, many commissaries ordered to become USDA compliant have either shut down or consolidated operations. President, Luis Ferreira, says “Going USDA has been one of the best decisions ever. We’re now able to focus on food manufacturing for larger clientele and we’re no longer within the restrictions of just the state of New Jersey. We can manufacture food for clients nationwide.”
In the past, the company had focused solely on producing food for mobile catering – a niche industry with little future growth. Ferreira continued, “We’re still producing food for the mobile catering trucks, but we’re now producing product for industries like retail, healthcare and education to name a few. Our food trays are fully-cooked and ready to serve – it’s a big savings on labor and really diversifies the clients menu.”
While Diamond Commissary can now focus on growth sectors, the types of products they manufacture also must be a fit and have demand. Ferreira went on to say, “We’re seeing very high demand for our prepared 5 lb beef, chicken, poultry, pork and fish trays. Institutions, food service companies and any organization tasked with serving hundreds or thousands of meals daily can benefit from the ease of simply ordering great food, manufactured at the highest standards.”
