The cost of groceries may not be going up as much this year.
The Consumer Price Index is projecting overall grocery prices nationwide to rise from 3 to 4 percent in 2012, compared to an increase of 4.25 to 4.75 percent projected for this year.
Wisconsin area shoppers are generally taking it as good news, but overall grocery prices nationwide will have gone up about 7 to 8 percent when you factor in last year and projected increases for 2012, while in many cases wages have been stagnant during the recession.
Oshkosh resident Charles Pingel said the projected easing of grocery prices next year is a good sign for the economy.
