The massive Wegmans that’s taking shape on site of former officers’ housing at the Brooklyn Navy Yard is set to debut this fall. The supermarket has been in the works for years and at one point had anticipated opening dates in 2017 and again in late 2018.
A store manager for the upstate-based grocer chain told Fox 5 NY that the hiring office has opened and is planning to fill 500 jobs, including 150 full-time positions. “We’re always looking for hyper-local but really we’re looking at just good people,” said manager Kevin Cuff to Fox 5. The hiring process will begin in February.
The building will replace dilapidated homes along history Admiral’s Row, where naval officers once lived during the Civil War era; those buildings were demolished in 2016. The store will span 74,000 square feet, across the ground and mezzanine floors with light manufacturing operating on the tops floors.
