Bob Evans has been called out in the past for dishes deemed less than healthy but the restaurant chain – just in time for New Year’s resolutions – is touting the more healthy part of its menu, according to a post on the Columbus Biz Insider blog.
“It’s no secret that more nutritious menu items in restaurants have been in high demand recently by both the general public and the government,” Tom Marchese, vice president of marketing, said in a release. “Last year, we challenged our chefs to come up with a menu dedicated specifically to more balanced meal options that would still boast the farm-fresh taste of Bob Evans.”
The 569-restaurant chain’s Fit from the Farm menu includes items with less than a third of the recommended daily value of calories, sodium, fat and saturated fats – and all the dishes have zero grams of trans fat and no MSG. Selections include blueberry-banana french toast, chicken spinach and tomato pasta, and potato-crusted flounder. For 2011, the chain is adding BE Fit Breakfast options, which include a cranberry multigrain sidecake, Bob Evans Egg Lites, which is a no-cholesterol egg blend, and more fresh fruit.
