A&P's Uncertain Future Could Upend NYC Grocery Store Scene

A&P, which operates Food Emporium, Pathmark, and other grocery stores in the New York City area, could be headed for bankruptcy court, according to media reports.

The corporate parent of the grocery chains A&P, Pathmark, Waldbaum’s, Superfresh, Food Basics and Food Emporium is set to file for Chapter 11 as soon as this week, sources told the New York Post today.

The Montvale, N.J.-based company is not confirming this.

“No decision has been made regarding a particular outcome, and it would be inaccurate and irresponsible to suggest otherwise,” an A&P spokesman told the Post. “The company is committed to continuing to serve its customers and communities as it always has and intends to keep its stores fully staffed.”
