Albertsons shoppers have noticed a few changes at local stores since the Boise-based chain was sold in March by its corporate parent Supervalu Inc.
Now comes one that'll hit their wallet — in that there's one less loyalty card they'll have to carry.
The grocer, a private company now owned by five investment firms including Cerberus Capital Management, announced Wednesday it will eliminate its blue "Preferred Card" that had offered members lower prices.
"The card isn't so special anymore," the company announced on its web site. "Everyone has one. So we want to take the special step of not requiring one anymore… We feel it's our job to give everyone a great shopping experience, and that includes offering great prices to everyone."
