Many food contain elements that help to fight cancer, many scientists believe that the cure from cancer will come from a plant. The cure will eventfully come, but in the meantime the search goes on to find more super foods that may help to fight cancer.
New research carried out in the UK at the Southampton university has found that by eating watercress everyday it may help to protect against cancer. Watercress is one vegetable that most children are familiar with from their early school days, as it’s normaly the first plant that children grow themselves.
The study showed that the levels of cancer fighting molecules were increased just by eating a portion of watercress every day, and this effect took place within a very short time of eating the watercress.
Watercress is now classed as a “Superfood” and these superfoods are becoming more and more popular as an alternative to health supplements. The technical reason why watercress is good for you is because of the isothiocyanates chemical that is found in the plant. The chemical apparently has a slowing down effect on the cancer cells.
