CINCINNATI – Vegy Vida, the all-natural dip and topper that helps kids love the pure taste of vegetables for life, is expanding product into all 70 Marsh Supermarket locations, a partnership that supports the retailer’s mission to inspire people to eat healthier foods.

The expansion took effect June 17 commemorating National Eat Your Vegetables Day, with the launch of the “Eat Your Vegys Day” campaign.

Vegy Vida, made in Cincinnati, is the only healthy vegetable dip and topper created especially for kids and their sensitive palates. Turns out kids are not fussy; they just have three times the number of taste buds as adults, so certain foods, such as vegetables, can be overwhelming. Vegy Vida’s special recipe includes a natural plant extract that trains taste buds to accept the natural taste of vegetables, solving a long-standing mealtime challenge: getting kids to eat their vegetables.

“That’s what makes us different,” said Heather Young, creator of the Vegy Vida recipe. “Vegy Vida doesn’t cover up the taste of veggies – it just takes the ‘bite’ out, so kids learn to enjoy the pure taste of veggies for life.”

Young – a former flavor scientist until she and her husband, Josh, decided to use their formulation and commercialization skills to improve how people eat – created Vegy Vida in her kitchen after spending two decades developing great flavors for foods she felt were not very healthy. The result is a healthy-ingredient dip and topper free of sugar, preservatives, GMOs and other additives. The Youngs have since built a team of veggie advocates and are now dedicated full-time to creating healthy, artificial-free products.

The retailers that carry Vegy Vida have expressed an interest in improving the way families eat. Marsh has made nutrition a key focus of its operations. Its Guiding Stars program is a nutritional rating system that takes the confusion out of reading food labels by emphasizing smarter food choices. Marsh also employs a dietician, Mary Snell, as its director of nutrition and wellness.

“Part of Marsh’s mission is to support and improve the communities it serves, and good nutrition is among the best places to start,” said Dave Rhodes, vice president of produce and floral merchandising at Marsh. “Vegy Vida supports nutrition where it is most important, among kids.”

Marsh’s distribution of Vegy Vida follows that of Remke Markets in Greater Cincinnati and at Dorothy Lane Markets in the Dayton area. At both Remke and Dorothy Lane stores, sales of Vegy Vida have exceeded expectations by at least 200 percent.

Vegy Vida is available in five kid-friendly flavors – Creamy Ranch, Cheesy Cheddar, Savory Bacon, Zesty Southwest and Buttery Garlic – with a suggested retail price of $3.99.
