Urban Produce Opens With A Grand Ole’ Western Bang

IRVINE — Green helium-filled balloons marked a trail to the Grand Opening of Urban Produce as they opened their doors welcoming family, friends and dignitaries. Guests included former California Secretary of Agriculture AG Kawamura and Mayor Steven Choi from Irvine who were thrilled with the “old west” themed celebration.

Ed Horton, President & CEO of Urban Produce commented, “We were blessed with the turn out. The entire Urban Produce team has worked hard to get to this point and we are delighted to be able to celebrate such a special occasion with family and friends who have supported us throughout our journey. Urban Produce is proud to debut its patented High Density Vertical Growing System & excited to bring fresh Organic, locally grown produce to Irvine and urban cities nationwide. ”

Throughout the night, organized tours of the facility educated guests about the patented High Density Vertical Growing System (HDVGS). The system was developed as a sustainable alternative to traditional agriculture; utilizing advanced hydroponic technologies in a controlled environment. The vertically stacked produce rotated in the impressive, state-of-the-art greenhouse demonstrating the process and the importance of equal light and air distribution. The growing process greatly increases growing efficiency and significantly reduces costs.

The Irvine facility is the first growing unit in Southern California. Urban Produce foresees building 100 urban farms all over the U.S. and internationally within the next 3 to 5 years. The Urban Produce mission is to bring fresh organic, locally grown, produce to the consumer; while providing growth and employment opportunities to local communities.
