WASHINGTON, D.C. – United Fresh Foundation has been named a 2014 Power of A Gold Award winner by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). ASAE recognized the Foundation for its work with Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools and the Foundation’s leadership in child nutrition.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by our association peers for our work with Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools and to increase children’s access to fresh fruits and vegetables. The produce industry, foundations and allied businesses have rallied around salad bars as a tangible benefit that encourages children’s increased fruit and vegetable consumption and empowers students to make healthy choices in the school lunch line,” said United Fresh President & CEO Tom Stenzel. “To date, Let's Move Salad Bars to Schools has provided salad bars to more than 3,400 schools nationwide, benefitting over 2 million students every day.”
As a Power of A Gold Award winner, United Fresh Foundation is under consideration to receive one of six Summit Awards, ASAE’s highest honor for associations. Summit Award winners will be announced July 7. United Fresh Foundation, along with twenty two other associations, is being recognized as a Power of A Gold Award winner.
The Power of A Awards recognize a select number of organizations annually that distinguish themselves with innovative, effective and broad-reaching programs and activities that positively impact America and the world. Part of ASAE’s advocacy role is to educate outside audiences about the true value of associations and the resources they bring to bear on our nation’s most pressing problems. The Power of A Awards recognize and celebrate the extraordinary contributions associations make to society by enriching lives, creating a competitive workforce, preparing society for the future, driving innovation and making a better world.
With a national childhood obesity epidemic and consistent government data confirming children eat less than half daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables, Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools is getting students excited to select fruits and vegetables while empowering them to make healthy choices. Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools has generated a national dialogue about how salad bars can provide fresh produce to students in a way that makes them "want to" select these healthy foods.
United Fresh Foundation remains committed to salad bars as a way to encourage healthier choices for our children, creating a positive image for the produce industry and developing the next generation of produce consumers and healthy citizens.
