CORAL GABLES, Florida – Starting in January, Turbana is partnering with Sendik’s to raise funds that will support those who are affecting by breast cancer. Once again, Turbana is participating in Sendik’s promotion, “7 Days, 7 Ways to Save” with Turbana bananas and Fyffes pineapples. Every Wednesday throughout the winter months, Fyffes pineapples will be two for $4 and Turbana bananas will be 29 cents per pound. Turbana and Sendik’s will be donating $1 for every two Fyffes pineapples that are purchased during the promotion to ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis. The nonprofit provides free one-on-one support to those battling cancer through its network of more than 500 mentors. ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis mentors are volunteers who have experienced breast cancer as a patient, family or friend, and who believe that everyone should have support when battling breast cancer.
“The work that ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis does is invaluable to those who are battling breast cancer and Turbana is honored to be supporting such an important cause with Sendik’s” says Marion Tabard, director of marketing at Turbana. “It is a part of Turbana’s fundamental values to support its community. We are thankful to have such a great partner in Sendik’s who shares those same values.”
Every season Sendik’s partners with a different charity. Last season Turbana and Sendik’s worked together to raise funds for Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. The promotion was a huge success. Sendik’s and Turbana donated over $11,500 to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis is Sendik’s spring partner this year. Over the past five years, Sendik’s and its guests have donated more than $250,000 to ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis.
“Both Sendik’s and Turbana understand the importance of giving back,” said Patrick Balistreri, family co-owner of Sendik’s Food Markets. “Through this program, and because of the generosity of our guests, we hope to top the $56,300 raised last year for ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis. Their one-to-one support is so important for those fighting breast cancer.”
This promotion hopes to encourage the community to make a healthy choice for themselves that in turn, will help a member of their community who is battling breast cancer. Community involvement is at Turbana’s core. As the first produce company to start a social movement, “Growing Smiles, Sharing Goodness,” Turbana seeks to encourage and empower people to eat smart, be active and get involved in their community. By purchasing Turbana bananas and Fyffes pineapples at Sendik’s on Wednesdays during the promotion, Sendik’s guests will help to further spread the “Growing Smiles, Sharing Goodness” movement which in turn helps communities across the country.
