Three Months, Three Recalls For Fresh Express

This week's recall of bagged Veggie Lover's salads is the third recall in three months for Salinas-based Fresh Express. But the cases aren't linked, the company said Wednesday.

No illnesses have been reported in any of the incidents.

"Each instance has to be taken separately on its own merit," said company spokeswoman Barbara Hines. "In the other two incidents, there were thorough investigations conducted not only by Fresh Express but by regulators. No evidence was found to suggest the test result indicated a larger food safety event beyond the isolated instance."

Late Tuesday, Fresh Express began a voluntary recall of 2,825 cases of Veggie Lover's salad after a bag tested positive for the bacteria listeria monocytogenes in random sampling by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
