Dover, FL based Tater Man announced that it has created a new website and designed a new box for the 2011/2012 sweet potato season.
Tater Man is a Dover, FL based produce company that specializes in growing and marketing sweet potatoes on approximately 325 acres in Central & Northern Florida and in Southern Georgia. Tater Man is anticipating to market over 1 million boxes of sweet potatoes during the 2011/12 season.
“Tater Man will have some of the first cured sweet potatoes available in the season and are expecting an excellent crop. Together with our partners, our primary marketing objective this year is focusing on FL & GA consumers and long term sustainability,” Jason Bell, President explains.
Tater Man’s new website is www.TaterManInc.com and was designed to really emphasize the locally grown aspect, explains Mark Vertrees, Marketing Director. “Locally grown will mean fresher product and reduced transportation and we see that as a strategic marketing advantage,” explains Vertrees.
The new Tater Man box features a Suwannee River theme. “Tater Man’s northern farms are located near the Florida /Georgia border not far from the historic and scenic Suwannee River and we figured that this famous and nationally known river would naturally make a nice box theme,” explains Jason Bell. The Suwannee River Sweets box features a cute Tater Man Sweet Potato in a kayak on the Suwannee River.
Approximately 80% of the 2011/12 Tater Man crop is the Hernandez Sweet Potato and Covington Varieties known for its consistent size, color and exceptional flavor. Approximately 10% of the crop is the Murasaki variety also known as an Oriental or Japanese Sweet Potato and has a dark purple exterior and white interior. The remainder of the crop is the Beauregard and Evangeline varieties.
Jason Bell, started Tater Man in 2010 after working with sweet potato farmers and other growers for many years nationally as a growing consultant since 1999. Through this unique grower relationship, Tater Man, Inc. also has additional marketing access to approximately 25,000 acres of sweet potato production in the southeast.
