Stew Leonard's In Norwalk Celebrates Hatch Chile Season

Stew Leonard’s in Norwalk is partnering with family-owned New Mexico Green Chile Company to host a Hatch Chile Roasting demo and tasting for customers on Thursday, August 23 through Sunday, August 26, 2012. Customers will have the opportunity to purchase fire-roasted or unroasted Hatch chiles as well as sample fresh salsa made with Hatch chiles.

Hatch chiles are long green chiles that are exclusively grown in the Mesilla Valley near Hatch, New Mexico. They have a robust, spicy flavor and release a zesty aroma as they are roasted over an open flame. Their peak season begins mid- to late August

Hatch Chile Recipes: With over 20,000 acres of chile harvested each year, Hatch green chile peppers are a vital ingredient in Southwestern cuisine. They are often served on top of hamburgers, in enchilada sauce, or even inside omelets. For recipes, please visit http://www.greenchileco.com/

To Roast at Home: Set oven burners on medium and let the chiles blister a little bit before rotating. Seal the charred chiles in a plastic bag and let them sweat in the fridge or on the counter. Once they are cool, separate the flesh of the pepper by peeling off the charred outer layer. Roasted Hatch Chiles can keep in the freezer for months!
