Southern Specialties and its grower partner Meridian announced today it has added a new raspberry variety to the company’s berry lineup. The company will market the raspberries under the Fresh Kampo label from its McAllen, Texas facility and their headquarters in Pompano Beach, Florida
“We are very pleased to have a superior raspberry variety to complement our blackberry, organic blackberry and blueberry programs" said Carlos Solf, director of procurement for Southern Specialties.
Fabricio Blanco, president of Meridian said “We have been working on the development of a raspberry of this caliber for several years. The flavor and presentation are among the best we have seen anywhere. We are pleased to introduce our raspberries in conjunction with Southern Specialties.”
The Adelita raspberry variety has been under development for the last nine years. Over the past three years extensive work has been conducted in the Michoacán region of Mexico where the raspberries are grown under plastic hoops.
Southern Specialties will offer the Fresh Kampo raspberries from October into May in 6 ounce clamshells. Other pack sizes are available by request. The company ships conventional, and organic, blackberries and blueberries under the Southern Selects label year round.
