Wilmington, Del. – Seneca Foods Corporation has announced they are increasing their contribution commitment to Produce for Better Health Foundation (PBH) with a $250,000 pledge, paid over the next 5 years.
“Seneca Foods supports PBH’s mission to increase fruit and vegetable consumption and we are convinced that increasing our support for PBH will have a positive impact on that effort,” said Paul Palmby, executive vice-president & COO of Seneca Foods. “Through it’s partnership with CDC, PBH’s, ‘More Matters’ and ‘All Forms’ messages provide credible guidance to the American consumer and highlights the opportunities for the entire fruit and vegetable industry for increased consumption overall. I firmly believe that more support from companies like ours will only continue to strengthen PBH’s influence on the consumption of fruits and vegetables. That’s why I’m reaching out to other industry leaders to ask that they also consider increasing their contributions.”
Seneca Foods joins Taylor Fresh Foods and other long-time $50,000+ PBH donors, including Paramount Farms, Stemilt Growers, and Syngenta, who have been at or above the $50,000 level for several years.
“We are very pleased to have Seneca Foods join our $50,000+ level of contributors to help us strengthen our efforts to increase fruit and vegetable consumption for better health,” said Elizabeth Pivonka, Ph.D., R.D., president and CEO of PBH. “That they are willing to not only increase their own donation, but also to encourage their peers to do the same, is both humbling and inspiring.”
Seneca Foods is one of the country’s largest processors of canned fruits and vegetables with manufacturing facilities located throughout the United States. Its products are sold under the Libby’s, Aunt Nellie’s Farm Kitchen, Stokely’s, READ, and Seneca labels as well as through the private label and industrial markets. In addition, under an alliance with General Mills Operations, LLC, a successor to the Pillsbury Company and a subsidiary of General Mills, Inc., Seneca produces canned and frozen vegetables, which are sold by General Mills Operations, LLC under the Green Giant label. Seneca’s common stock is traded on the NASDAQ Global Stock Market under the symbols “SENEA” and “SENEB”.
PBH will announce the names of companies declaring their increased pledge commitment to PBH in upcoming media outreach efforts as a way to thank them and to encourage the entire produce industry to commit to PBH the way PBH has committed to increasing fruit and vegetable consumption.
