MONTEREY, CA (January 21, 2011) Royal Rose Radicchio of Salinas, Calif. Announces “J’Adore Radicchio!”
Did you know radicchio comes from Italy? Radicchio di Verona comes from the hometown of the famous pair Romeo and Juliet. Radicchio di Verona is so versatile and compliments so many types of food that it makes it the perfect pairing for just about anything! Its vibrant color and the ability to eat it as finger food increase the opportunities for romance. Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to launch a new relationship with this exotic and sophisticated vegetable.
All across Italy, different varieties of radicchio are grown including the more common varietals Treviso, Castelfranco and Chioggia.
Valentine’s Day is well known across the country as a day of romance and love. February 14th is associated annually with gifts, flowers, and candy, but what about doing something in February for the love of your health and heart?
Royal Rose will be holding a series of “J’Adore Radicchio” promotions this February. The first promotion is a month long Facebook contest about why “J’adore radicchio.” Submit a photo of your favorite heart healthy radicchio recipe and tell us in a 100 words or less why “J’adore radicchio.” Submit the essay and recipe to and include your first and last name and phone number to be notified if you win. Be sure to post the photo on Facebook and tell us when you have submitted your recipe via email! People can post throughout the entire month of February. The winner be announced in March and receive a $100 Visa gift card, a case of radicchio shipped to them and their recipe will be promoted on Royal Rose website.
In addition, Royal Rose and four local restaurants are partnering with the American Heart Association to raise heart awareness. During the month of February explore the different ways Radicchio can be served and support the American Heart Association. Each restaurant listed below will create a dish using Royal Rose radicchio. Every time that dish is ordered. The restaurants will donate $1.00 to the American Heart Association. The American Heart Association (AHA) is a non-profit organization in the United States that fosters appropriate cardiac care in an effort to reduce disability and deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke.
February 1 – 7 stop by Bistro Moulin at 867 Wave Street in Monterey and taste radicchio prepared with a French Country flair.
February 8 – 14 enjoy radicchio at one of these Downtown Dining restaurants. Chef Cy Yontz will be adding a Southwestern Flair at Rio Grill located at 101 Crossroads in Carmel. Chef Tony Baker will add radicchio to one culinary delight at Montrio's Bistro located at 414 Calle Principal in Monterey. Chef Michael Kimmel will create a radicchio inspired dish for Tarpy’s Roadhouse located at 2999 Salinas Highway 1 in Monterey.
February 15 – 21 try a Spanish tapas dish with radicchio as Mundaka located at San Carlos between Ocean and 7th in Carmel by the Sea.
February 22 – 28 drop in to Fandango and discover Europe in your own backyard. Unique wine, fun food tasting experiences – Food. Fun. Fandango! Fandango is located at 223 17th Street in Pacific Grove.
All February In addition for the entire month of February, Bellagio Pizzeria at 404 Tyler (on the corner of Tyler and Franklin) in Monterey has created a special radicchio pizza. For each radicchio pizza that sells between February 1 – 28, Bellagio Pizzeria will donate $1.00 to the American Heart Association.
