Boerne, TX – Progreso Produce has long been a leading grower/shipper in the Texas/Mexico import corridor, but recently has expanded their product mix to include avocadoes from Peru.
Progreso has been importing Mexican avocadoes for over a year and offers a year-round Mexican avocado program. The addition of Peruvian avocadoes fills a short 12-week market window and is a compliment to their Mexican program.
Curtis DeBerry, President of Progreso Produce commented, “The opportunity to make Peruvian avocadoes available to our customers allows us to offer a firmer fruit during the time of year when the Mexican avocado crop is very ripe. For some customers, ripe fruit poses receiving challenges. Peruvian fruit gives our customers a choice during this quality sensitive time.”
Progreso will begin receiving Peruvian avocadoes through the Port of Houston during the week of June 25th. The Peruvian avocadoes will be available in 25# cartons of 48 ct sizes and larger in the Southern Exposure brand. In addition to Peruvian avocadoes, Mexican avocadoes will also be available and ripening programs can be set up to customer specifications.
In addition to their avocado program, Progreso also offers a year-round, onion and watermelon program sourcing from all major growing regions throughout the U.S. and Mexico. Additionally, Progreso is rapidly expanding their strawberry, blueberry and blackberry business with nearly year-round availability of blueberries and blackberries and they continue to grow their mango business.
