REIDSVILLE, Ga. – Produce for Kids® (PFK), an organization that promotes the benefits of healthy eating and supports worthy causes for children, celebrated the completion of its 2010 annual program and the continued support of its partner retailers and suppliers at a reception at the Southeast Produce Council’s annual convention, Southern Exposure.
The reception, held Friday, March 4, recognized the retailers and sponsors that have helped raise more than $3.1 million for children’s charities including Children’s Miracle Network hospitals and PBS KIDS® since the program’s inception in 2002.
“We’re thankful for the strong support we continue to receive from our partners,” said John Shuman, PFK founder and president. “We appreciate everyone who supported our mission to date and we’re looking forward to growing our program with new partners in expanded markets in 2011.”
The spring 2011 Get Healthy, Give Hope campaign will be the largest Produce for Kids campaign to date with several new participating retailers representing 16 banners across the country including: Acme Markets; Kroger’s Southwest and King Soopers divisions; Price Chopper, Ahold’s GIANT and Martin’s Food Stores, Giant Landover, and Stop N Shop divisions; Meijer Stores; Publix Super Markets and Associated Wholesale Grocers’ Major Savings, Advantage, Independent, Country Mart, Homeland and United divisions.
Heidi McIntyre, PFK executive director, said, “The Southeast Produce Council Expo provides a venue for us to highlight the results from our annual programs and share information about how we are growing with the industry.
“We’re proud of our efforts to promote healthy lifestyles for families by educating kids and parents about the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables in new and innovative ways.”
