Despite the cancelation of the 10K Race because of extreme heat and humidity this past September, the shorter one-mile long race for kids dubbed the “Tater Tot Trot” went on as scheduled raising $1,000 to feed the hungry in the region.
Each year Hugo’s Family Markets and other generous businesses and organizations sponsor the races as part of Potato Bowl USA’s week-long slate of events. Runner’s fees also contribute to the cause. The planning and running of the event is done by Potato Bowl volunteer committee member Julie Kirkeby and her team at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks.
Potato Bowl Races which began in 2008 have so far raised over $6,000 to fight hunger. This year the Potato Bowl USA Committee once again selected the East Grand Forks Food Shelf in East Grand Forks and St. Joseph’s Social Care in Grand Forks to receive $500 each to stock their food shelves.
The East Grand Forks Food Shelf is located at 1715 3rd Ave. NW in East Grand Forks, MN. The Food Shelf is open three days a week; Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 to 5:00, and Friday from 10:00 to 2:00.
St. Joseph Social Care is located at 620 8th Ave. S in Grand Forks. Their hours are 9:00 to 6:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 9:00 to 8:00 on Wednesdays and 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturdays.
